ART AND ANCIENT TRADITIONS

Tuscia in Fabula propones a weekend exploring some unique sites and ancient local traditions.

FRIDAY.
Arrival in Viterbo and accommodation in hotel/B&B.

Lunch free time.
Afternoon dedicated to the discovery of Viterbo, defined for centuries as the city of the Popes. We will visit the cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Palace of the Popes with the hall of the Conclave, the medieval quarter San Pellegrino, the church dedicated to the patron saint Rosa, the Palazzo dei Priori with its frescoed halls and the entire historic center with its many small squares and fountains.
Dinner free time, return to hotel/B&B, overnight stay.

SATURDAY
Morning dedicated to visiting Tarquinia, one of the oldest Etruscan cities.  We will go to explore the long hill of Monterozzi, site of the main Etruscan necropolis, which constitutes one of the most extraordinary archaeological complexes in the entire Mediterranean area for the presence of hundreds of painted tombs, flanked by princely tumuli of monumental character. In 2004 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the end we will go to discover one of the oldest traditions of this area, olive growing, at a local oil mill.
Italy in general has an extremely favorable climate and environment for olives, in the Canino area there are more than 500 varieties, a truly unique territory being halfway between the sea and the volcanic cone (600 m asl) of Lake Bolsena; this implies that within 30 km there are different soils (sand, clay, rock, tuff, volcanic lapillus) and different microclimates.
This is the reason why the oils produced by this company are so diverse, and the Caninese variety is probably one of the oldest native Italian varieties, already documented in Etruscan frescoes 3,000 years ago.
The planned experience will include a short 60-minute course at the farm's olive mill, where an engaging lecture on extra virgin olive oil and a guided tasting of three monovarietal oils from our production will take place.
At the end of the program, participants will have lunch at a small restaurant in the area where they will enjoy refined dishes inspired by the Tuscia tradition using several of our oils.
Dinner free time, return to hotel/B&B, overnight stay.

SUNDAY
Morning dedicated to the visit of Bagnaia, a small village that encloses within it the splendid Villa Lante,  one of the best examples of a late Renaissance residence, located within a 22-hectare park, which houses magniloquent fountains with water features and a splendid Italian garden,  in recent years chosen as the set for numerous movies and tv series (including Paolo Sorrentino's The Young Pope and Nanni Moretti's Habemus Papam).
Lunch free time.

End of our services.
