GRADOLI: Cantina Oleificio Sociale di Gradoli

The Cantina Oleificio Sociale di Gradoli is a cooperative society founded in 1929 and has therefore been operating for more than 75 years in the agricultural landscape of Alta Tuscia, even welcoming members from nearby Tuscany. From an agronomic point of view, the area, due to its soil and climatic characteristics, is to be fully considered 'suited' for the cultivation of vines and olive trees.

The aleatico, a vine of very ancient origins and of great value, was imported into Italy from Greece, spreading first in Puglia and subsequently in a few other small areas of Italy. In Lazio, particularly in a small area overlooking the north-eastern coast of Lake Bolsena, the vine encountered optimal conditions for development, finding a total and ideal correspondence with the soil and microclimatic conditions. It was precisely from this grape that the only liqueur wine of the region was obtained which is produced in a limited area which belongs to the municipalities of Gradoli, Grotte di Castro, San Lorenzo Nuovo and Latera.
